Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit I License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Inacvertent Reactor Scram / Safety Injection This letter concerns your letter of September 21, 1979, discussing the inadvertent reactor scram and safety injectf.n which occurred during monthly surveillance testing of the safeguards system.

Met-Ed has not completed the required reviews needed to fully respond to the subject letter. These reviews are being conducted in parallel with the TMI-I restart activity. Since an occurrence as described above can only occur during power operation, such an occurrence has been precluded at TMI-I.

For these reasons we are requestine an extension to provide responses prior to restart of TMI-I.
