5 Mr. Thomas .. Anderson, Manager Nuclear Safety Department Westinghouse Electric Corporation P. O. Box 355 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230

Dear Mr. Anderson:

SUBJECT:

REVIEW OF WCAP-9157 (PROPRIETARY)

By letter NS-TMA-2059 dated May-14, 1979, Westinghouse provided a response to our questions and requests for additional information on the subject topical report.

Since this response did not resolve all of our concerns, further discussions were held with R. Sero, et al., of Westinghouse on September 5 and 7,1979.

As a result of these meetings, we have reached agreement with Westinghouse on all aspects of the adequacy of WCAP-9157 except for the method of calcu-lating qualified life of resistance tempercture detectors (RTDs), qualification of field connections to RTDs, and the environmental qualification of remote bellows sensing pressure transmitters.

The agreements reached in these meetings are expected to be documented by revising WCAP-9157.

The areas in which agreement was not reauned are evaluated in the enclosure.

Since the enclosed evaluation uses Westinghouse Proprietary information from WCAP-9157, the enclosure will be handled as proprietary and is being withheld from public disclosure in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790.

We have requested applicants for operating licenses that have referenced WCAP-9157 to provide acceptable information in the areas in which agreement was not reached with Westinghouse.

Please revise WCAP-9157 by January 30, 1980 to implement agreements reached in our September 5 and September 7, 1979 meetings.

If there are any questions regarding the technical content of the revisions, please phone Tom Dunning (301) 492-7383.

/ Sincerely, 6 /
