Dear Mr. Kohn:
This is in reply of your letter dated November 23, 1979, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, access to information regarding the Uood River Junction nuclear facility and other nuclear facilities in the State of Rhode Island.
In response to your request, and confirming your telephone conversation with Mr. Frank W. Karas of my staff on December 6,1979, you limited the scope of your request to documents concerning licenses issued to the University of Rhode Island at Kingston, Brown University at Providence, and the United Nuclear Corporation at Hood River Junction. Copies of the documents listed in Appendix A are enclosed (total 524 paces).
Document 1 of Appendix A is a report giving operating statistics for the only nuclear reactor in Rhode Island.
It is being operated by the Rhode Island Ate alc Energy Commission, Nuclear Science Center, South Ferry Road, Narragansett, RI.
The report includes a chronology on page 1 and a discussion of discharges of heat and of radioactive solids, liquids, and gases on page 27.
Additional documents concerning this reactor are on file for inspection and copying in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR), 1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC, under Docket No. 50-193.
' cm 2 of Appendix A is the completed file on the University of Rhode Island (231 pages), and item 3 of Appendix A is the complete file on Brown University (264 pages).
Documents pertaining to the NRC licensed activities at the United Nuclear Corporation's Wood River Junction facility are filed in the PDR under Docket No. 70-7820.
