Dear Mr. O' Reilly:
On November 16, 1979 Mr. Tom Burdette of the NRC was notified by Mr. Ronald Clary of South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) of a potential significant deficiency regarding rod drop analysis. West-inghouse notified the NRC by phone and by letter on November 15, 1979 explaining t'se pioblem and its safety significance. A meeting was held between Wes innhouse and the NRC to discuss the problem. A copy of the Westinchoura letter to the NRC, which was received by SCE&G on December

Under the SCE&G program we are now renorting this as a reportable significant deficiency.
Since corrective action has not been identified, this letter is an iterim report. A final report will be issued when Westinghouse notifies us of t ap ropriate corrective action.
