Dear Mr. Gannis:
This is in response to your letter dated December ll,1979 in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, various information concerning the activities of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and nuclear power plants.
The Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. 552) applies only to requests for, or access to, records.
Since your request is for information rather than access to records, it is not a proper request made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act.
Accordingly, no further action will be taken with respect to your present reque.st.
If you wish, we will be pleased to have a member of the staff assist you in redefining your request so that the NRC may, with a reasonable amount of effort, locate the specific type of records you are seeking. You should note the provision of 10 CFR 9.14(b) regarding the costs of searching for and reproducing copies of documents.
I am enclosing a copy of 10 CFR Part 9 of the NRC's regulations, which specifies the charges for searching and reproducing records.
