PNS-79-05 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or oublic interest significance.

The information presented is as initial' y received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

Subject:

B0MB THREATS The French Hospital In San Luis Obispo, California, received an anonymous telephone call from an unknown male at 12:20 p.m., January 19, 1979, who stated, "A bomb is going off. at Diablo in the turbine builaii, rt 1:30" (a.m. or p.m. unknown).

Police Department who in turn notified the licensee at 12:30 p.m.

January 19, 1979.

Additionally, the Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton, California received an anonymous telephone call from a female at 11:10 a.m. on January 24, 1979, who stated "Get the hospital beds ready because Diablo Canyon is going to be blown up today." The hospital then notified the San Luis Obispo sheriff's department.

Both the sheriff's department and the hospital notified Pacific Gas and Electric at 11:40 a.m. on January 24, 1979.

The above threats are similar to the bomb threat received against Diablo Canyon at the Sierra Vista Hospital on January 17,1979 (PNS-79-04).

In each instance the licensee conducted a search with negative results and gave the construction workers the option of continuing to work or taking the rest of the day off.

The FBI, BATF and the State of California have been notified by Region V.

The IAT has been notified.

IRC Region V (San Francisco) received telephone notification of the bomb threats from the licensee on January 24, 1979.
