BT6 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION January 18, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
PNS-79-04 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY nmice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest sianificance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

B0MB THREAT The Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo, California received an anonymous telephone call from'a male, at 7:50 a.m., on January 17, 1979, who stated "You better have 300 beds ready, there is a bomb planted at Diablo Canyon ready to go off at 11:00." (a.m. or p.m. is unknown) The Sierra Vista Hospital then notified the San Luis Obispo police departmer.t.
Both t police department and the hospital notified Pacific Gas &
Electric at 8:15 a.m. on January 17, 1979.
The licensee conducted a search with negative results.
ihey also gave construction workers the option of continuing to work or taking the rest of the day off. Media interest is not expected by the lice'isee and no press release is planned.
The FBI, BATF, and the State of California have been notifiec by Region V.
The I AT has been notified.
NRC Region V (San Francisco) received telephone notification of the bomb threat from the licensee at 10:22 a.m. on January 17, 1979.
