/c PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION May 31, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT -- PNS-79-54 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
FACILITY: Tennessee Valley Authority Hartsville, Unit Nos. 3 and 4 Docket Nos. 50-520 and 50-521 Hartsville, Tennessee SUEJECT:
BOMB THREAT At 10:00 a.m.
on May 31, 1979, an anonymous telephone call was received by the local Sheriff with an individual indicating that there was a bomb at the Hartsville Nuclear Station Units 3 and 4.
Units 3 and 4 were evacuated at 10:15 a.m.
and a search initiated with negative results.
Employees returned to the plant at 10:45 a.m.
All units are under construction and no fuel is on site.
Local media interest is anticipated. A news release is not planned by the licensee or the NRC. The State of Tennessee has been informed.
The IAT was notified.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the licensee at 2:10 p.m.
on May 31, 1979.
