Docket Mos. 50-329, 50-330 Gentlemen:

By letter dated June 20, 1979, I advised you on behalf of Consumers Power Company that a then completed review of the Midland Project schedule had resulted in a decision by the Company.to delay the Unit 2 Target Fuel Loading Date from November, 1980, to June, 1981. No change was estimated in the Unit 1 Target Fuel Loading Date of November, 1981.

. Following that letter, Consumers Power Company undertook a further review of the schedule of the Midland Nuclear Power Plant to take account of the resolution of unresolved licensing issues, the suspension of licensing review activities by the staff of the Muclear Regulatory Commission and the offects of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant acciden t. Consumers Power Company has now received preliminary information from Bechtel Power Corporation, the company's architect-constructor, that fuel leading for Unit 2 could be delayed to some date in 1983. Both Consumers Power Company and Bechtel are conducting further evaluations of this additional delay in the fuel loading date. It is expected that a definitive revised Fuel Loading Schedulp will be completed in the first quarter of 1980.

Sincerely,

~
