4 DOCKET NO.

50-309 UNIT Maine Yankee DATE 791212 COMPLETED BY R. M. Sjogren TELEPHONE (617) 366-9011 X2281 REPORT MONTH November 1979 SU2IARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES At the beginning of the month the plant was in the process of load re-duction to 80% to permit securing a circulating water pump in order to clean debris off the Amertap condenser cleaning outlet screens.

By 0940 hours0.0109 days
0.261 hours
0.00155 weeks
3.5767e-4 months
on 11/1/79 the debris had been removed and the plant was back at full load (%97%) limited by steam flow through the LP turbines.

On 11/5/79 an electrical spike generated while troubleshooting the electrical " noise" problem in the RPS, resulted in a spuricus TM/LP reactor trip. All systems responded normally to the trip and the plant returned to power on the following day.

For the remainder of the month the plant operated at essentially full load until 11/29/79. By this time RCS boron concentration had decreased to 15 ppm and it was decided to let power decrease down to 2400 MWth as a part of the core coastdown program.

At the end of the month, power was being held at 2400 MWth by allowing Tc to drift down providing the necessary positive reactivity to. hold reactor power constant. Electrical output is decreasing as a function of the decreasing Tc.

The plant is in a coastdown condition as the end of core Cycle 4 approaches. Refueling is presently scheduled to com-mence on 1/11/80.
