Import Licensees Using the Port of Savannah Savannah, Georgia SUEJECT:
LOCAL BAN OF RADI0 ACTIVE SHIPMENTS THROUGH GARDEN CITY, GEORGIA Local officials of Garden City, Georgia, a northern suburb of Savannah, enacted an ordinance on August 20, 1979, which bans the shipment of spent fuel and selected other quantities of radioactive material through Garden City.
The ardinance also calls for tnree days notice on other shipments of lesser radio-active caterial.
The impact of this ordinance is uncertain; howeve*, it appears that truckers must now use a different exit of Interstate 95 to get to the bertns at the Port of Savannah.
Ine IAT has been notified.
Inere nas been local news media interest in Savannah because of spent fuel shic-
-nts in the Port and the recent local publicity about UF-E extericr cylinders reaking non-radioactive condensation while storec at :ne Port (PN5 79-90).
