PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION March 7, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
DNS-79-18 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
Facility:
Pacific Gas & Electric Company Diablo Canyon Units Nos.1 & 2 Dccket Nos. 50-275 & 50-323 San Luis Obispo County, California
Subject:
BOMB THREAT On March 6, 1979, at 6:50 a.m., an unknown male called the San Luis Obispo Police Department, San Luis Obispo, California and gave the following message:
"A bomb is going to blow up at Diablo Canyon Plant at 10:00." (a.m. or p.m. not specified)
He then hung up.
The licensee was advised.
The licensee conducted a search of the facility.
No bomb was found nor did one detonate.
Contractors were advised.
Approximately 10% of the workers left the site.
Media interest is not expected by the licensee and no press release is planned.
The State of California has been notified.
The IAT has been notified.
NRC, Region V (San Francisco) received initial telephone notification from the licensee at 9:15 a.m. and a followup call from the NRC Resident Inspector at 11:20 a.m., on March 6,1979.
