10/30/79 MEETING
SUMMARY
Licensee: Omaha Public Power District (0 PPD)
Facility: Fort Calhoun, Unit No. 1 Sumary of Meeting:- Held on October 23, 1979 to discuss proposal for feedwater nozzle inspection.
Representatives of OPPD and W met with the staff to discuss OPPD's proposal for fe dwater nozzle inspectTon from the hot shutdown condition. Attendees are lis,ted in Attachment 1.
The licensee discussed the testing which has been performed in support of the subject proposal. The tests in general included:
1.
A feasibility test using cracked samples.
2 A cold simulation at a mockup.
3.
A hot simulation at a mockup.
The licensee and W representatives described the test as being a qualitative technique which could detect cracking greater than 1/16 inch depth.
Because of calibration inaccuracies at the hot shutdown temperatures, actual UT indications evaluation was stated to not be practical at this time.
The licensee stated that their plan was to -hut dowr 10/26 and conduct UT in hot shutdown.
The licensee comitted that:
1.
If indications are found, evaluations will be performed at cold shutdown in accordance with builetin 79-13 provisions.
2.
The hot examinations will be performed by an operator qualified equally to the operator who performed the demonstration.
3.
The examinations will include safe-end to nozzle and ' safe-end to pipe welds on both main feedwater nozzles.

4.
If no indications are found the full inspection will be performed at cold shutdown in January 1980 refueling.
A subsequent telecon on October 25, 1979 with Mr. Morris of OPPD identified a change in shutdown schedule to October 31, 1979, which is within the original comitment.
