Subject:

NEWS MEDIA INFORMATION REGARDING SUPPORT OF CRITICAL MASS ENERGY PROJECT'S REQUEST TC REV0KE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT On Saturday, January 6, 1979, the news media informed the Region IV Director, by telephone, that two additional groups intend to give their support to the Critical Mass Energy Project's request that the Commis-sioners revoke the Construction Permit for Wolf Creek until the quality assurance and quality control systems at the site have been upgraded.

The Critical Mass request was made in a letter to the NRC Chairman dated December 27, 1978.

The two groups lending their support are the Mid-America Coalition for Energy Alternatives (Shawnee Mission, KA.) and the Union of Concerned Scientists.

The Critical Mass request was apparently prompted by a recent NRC investigation of the strength of the Reactor Building concrete base mat and the recent discovery of a void in the reactor building wall.

This notification is being made because of the continued high interest by the news media and the local public in the Wolf Creek facility.
