Dear Mr. Bauser:
This is to inform the Joint Committee that the Commission has issued an Order Imposing Civil Monetary Penalty to Metropolitan Edison Company, Reading, Pennsylvania, in the amount of Three Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($3,500).
This action was based on the licensee's failure to meet security requirements of 10 CFR Part 73 at Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1.
The civil penalty was mitigated from Four Thousand Dollars
($4,000) after consideration of the licensee's response of October 16, 1974, to our letter of September 23, 1974, which enclosed the Notice of Violation and the Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty.
Under terms of the Order Imposing Civil Monetar-f Pene.lty, the licensas may, within twenty days of the receipt of the Order, pay the civil penalty or request a hearing.
A copy of our letter to the licensee, including copies of the Order Imposing Civil Monetary Penalty, the Notice of Violation and the Notice of Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalty, are enclosed.
