~DESCRIPTICN OF REQUEST:

Attached is a reanalysis of the D1?.-l Reactor Building.

Spray Systec performance.

Th a reanalysis was requested by the NRC.

NRC (0IE) has been advised recently by B&W that the development of recent analytical techniques for evaluating this system had led to the' conclusion that some, B&W plants may be operating with systems with performance characteristics not consistent with those assured a the FSAR.

One specific concern raised was the potential fer mis =atched drawdowns between the Borated Uater Storage Tank, the Sodium Thiosulfate Tank, and the Sodium Hydroxide Tank which could cause reduced rates of iodine removal during certain time periods of the system operation.

The reanalysis by TMI-1 Has been done using the B&W computer' program and certain conservatis=s.

Likewise, the computer program has been verified at TMI-l under at least one condition (during start-up testing).

Please review the attached submittal to determine if the D11-1 Reactor Building Spray System characteristics conform to "RC requirecents. You are also requested to provide us with a written evaluation'of your findings.
