7 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION July 3,1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-209 b'
This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without veritication or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

RADIOGRAPHIC INDICATIONS IN STEAM GENERATOR N0ZZLE-T0=
FEEDWATER LINE WELDS Review of radiographic examinations of the steam generator (SG) nozzle-to-feedwater pipe welds revealed defi md cracks in the "A" SG and indi-cations in the "B" SG.
The crack; (2) on the "A" SG are located at about the 11 o' clock position, about 1/2". rom the weld on the pipe side and are about two inches and six inches long respectively.
The licensee has decided to remove arid replace the feedwater-to-nozzle transition pipe on both the "A" and "B" SG's.
Region III inspectors are onsite reviewing radiographs and other licensee actions.
The plant was shutdown June 30, for the examination of the feedwater lines.
The outage will be extended due to the replacement of the transition pipes.
The licensee plans to radiograph other welds in the feedwater lines.
The licensee will make a news release.
The State of Wisconsin will be notified by Region III.
Region III was informed of the cracks on July 2,1979 at 1:30 p.m.
