PRELIMINARY NCTIFICATI_0N June 15. 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-167 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation a_nd is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Subject:
ALLEGATION REGARDING STEAM GENERATOR SUPPORTS Region III has learned from the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research that a knowledgeable individual believes the steam generator supports at Davis-Besse Unit 1 may not be adequate to withstand dynamic loading.
The individual, who insists en remaining anonymous, believes the supports may be underdesigned by a factor of 5 to 10.
The Region is investigating the matter.
At the present time, Region III does not plan to make a press release.
The State of Ohio is being notified.
Region III received notification of the allegation on June 14, 1979.
