The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Facility: Jamesport Units 1 and 2 Long Island Lighting Company Riverhead, New York Docket Numbers 50-516 and 50-517 Subj ect:
FATAL ACCIDENT ON SITE A crop duster helicopter hit a guy wire for the meteorological tower on July 6, 1979.
The pilot was killed.
The tower was not seriously damaged.
This preliminary notification is issued for information.
The accident has received routine local coverage by the news media.
The State of New York has been informed.
A press release is not planned by the licensee or NRC.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from an hTC inspecter on site at Shoreham at 9:50 a.m.,
July 10, 1979.
