PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION Juh 11, 1979, 64 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE'--PNO-79-228 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY noti [e of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially ~ received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

DAVIS-BESSE 1 STARTUP FOLLOWING EXTENDED SHUTDOWN Davis-Besse Unit I resumed operation this morning at 5:58 a.m.
RIII inspectors have been at the site following startup preparations and were onsite to witness start 6p and power ascension.
As of 8:15 a.m.
the unit was at 5% power. There were no unusual events or occurrences associated with the startup. The unit had been shutdown since March 30, 1979.
The licensee has notified the news media of the startup and media interest has been extensive. The State of Ohio is being notified. The Region does not intend to issue a press release.
