t-PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION July 11, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-231 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

SUBJECT:
ANO UNIT 1 TURBINE VIBRATIONS On July 10, 1979, Unit I was shutdown at 6:52 a.m. from 21% power due to abnormal turbine vibrations.
The initial investigation has not revealed the source of the vibrations.
The licensee is now estimating that the plant shutdown could be up to three (3) weeks.
A press release is planned to be issued by the licensea if the shutdnwn exceeds one (1) week.
Region IV was initially notified of this event on July 10, 1979 by the Unit One Control Room operator.
