The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically ali that is known by IE staff on this date.

Subject:
LOW SODIUM PENTABORATE FOR PRIMARY INJECTION The procedure for determining the weight percent of Sodium Pentaborate in the Standby Liquid Storage Tank and available for injection into the pricary system of this Boiling Water Reactor has been determined *
- o produce a calculated concentration about 15% higher than the actual concentration.
The prccedure which included an incorrect conversion factor for oorcn has been revised 6 times but the calculation involved has been unchanged since Septecber 1970.
Checks of the last 12 monthly determinations of sodium cencaborate concentration show that the technical specification requirements were fulfilleo for only 2 of those monthly checks.
The sodium pentaborate concentration is within specification now, and procedural controls are being odified to ensure it remains so.
This PN is being issued for information only.
NRC Region I will pursue this matter during its regular inspection effort.
Media interest is possible because of sensitivity to nuclear power cl ar.t problems.
The State of Connecticut has been informed.
A press release is not planned by the licensee or NRC.
NRC, Recion I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the e'sident inspector at 2:20 p.m. on July 13, 1979.
