TACILITY:

Arbncas Power and Light Company Arbnus Nuclear One (ANO), Unit 2 Russellville, Arkansas Locket No. 50-368 SITP.JiCT:

TRIP OF ANO UNIT 2 FROM 50% POWER At 1:20 a.m. hours on July 19, 1979, ANO Unit 2 tripped fron 50% power on low steam generator level.

Subsequent investigation did not reveal any equipment malfunction The licensee has concluded that the low steam generator level resulted when an operator leaning against the control panel caused the Main Feedwater pump turbine o runback to the low speed stop. The emergency feedwater system (EFW) actuated en low stean generator level; however, t'ae steam driven EFW.pu=p tripped on over-rpe e d.

The operators found that water had collected in the steam supply line b : tween a trap and the inlet valves to the emergency feedwater pump turbine.

This line was blown down through a drain and the steam driven pump successfully started three times in sequence. The stean driven pu=p was declared operational and -he unit was critical at 5:45 a.m. and is returning to 50% power.

A press release is not planned by either the licensee or the regicn.

Eegion IV was initially notified of this event on July 19, 1979 by the IE Eesident Inspector.
