SGJECT:
RECURRING CONCPITE PLACEMENT DEFICIENCIES On July 20, 1979, the Region III Director and members of his staff met with ce=bers of Public Service of Indiana corporate management to discuss the concrete placement activities at the Marble Hill nuclear site.
The meeting was prompted by Region III inspection findings wherein quality control deficiencies continue to exist in connection with place =ent of Class I concrete.
(Concrete placement activities had previously been stopped by the licensee last month for about 10 days as a result of similar problems - Reference PNO 79-182A.) As result of the meeting, PSI has stopped further Class I concrete a
ucrk pending evaluation of its contractor's corrective at.tio s as well as its own overview of construction activities.
NRC's position en this matter will be based on the licensee's proposed action.
The State of Indiana is being kept abreast of developments.
The licensee has issned a press release and Region III is responding to news media inquiries.
