ISSUANCE OF IE BULLETIN REGARDING TRIPPING REACTOR COOLANT PUMPS FOLLOWING A REACTOR TRIP Revision C to IE Bulletins 79-05 and 79-06 was issued to all PWR licensees on July 27,1979.
This revision changes an operating condition described in Bulletins 7905A&B and 79-06A&B.
The change requires the licensee to immediately

trip the reactor coolant pumps (RCP) upon receipt of combined react (.- trip and initiation of high pressure coolant injection signals.
This change is being requested because running the RCP's will exacerbate the coolant loss for a range of small pipe break LOCA's which could prolong or aggravate uncovering the reactor core.
A complete analysis of small pipe break ranges coupled with a range of time intervals for reactor trip to pump trip is also required by the Bulletin.
