August 8, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-315 This oreliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or oublic interest significance.

UNSCHEDULED SHUTDOWN Unit shutdown has been initiated to repair a nonisolable steam leak, apparently from a weldolet for the 4" Auxiliary Feedwater Turbine Driven Pump steam supply takeof f f rc'- the 12" Atmosph.eric Dump Supply Line.
Leakage was initially de-tected about 1:00 a.m. on August 8 and became more severe during the night (to ir excess of 10,000 lb/hr).
No radioactivity releade was involved.
Snutdown curation is expected to be two to four days.
S'ecia ir.terest is expected because of sensitivity to nuclear oower plant problems.
The State o' Connecticut has been informed.
A press release is p,anned by the licensee.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) was informed of this occurrence by verbal notifi-cation of tre resident inspector onsite at 5:30 a.m. on August S.
