PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION August 6, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-308 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest sionificance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Central and Northern California Nuclear Power Plants
SUBJECT:
EARTHQUAKE An earthquake was felt in the Region V office (Walnut Creek, California) at approximately 1:00 p.m. EDT.
The epicenter was reported to be approximately 60 miles south of San Francisco about 68 miles north of Hollister and a mag-nitude of 5.9 on the Richter.
The tremor in the Region V office was slight.
Humboldt Bay, Diablo Canyon and Rancho Seco power plants reportedly sensed no tremor.
No major damage has been reported as a result of this earthquake.
