August 6, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-307 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safetv or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all tnat is known by IE staff on this date.

Wisconsin Electric Power Company, Point Beach, Unit 1 Docket No. 50-245 Subiect:
STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK The licensee reported that follod ng return to power after being down for approximately one day to repair a nigh pressure turbine steam leak and to make a temporary repair to the Auxiliary Feedwater Line,a 1.45 gpm leak developed on Steam Generator "A".
This determination was made at approximately 2:55 a.m.
August 5, 1979.
A cooldown was initiated promptly since this leakage was in excess of Technical Specification Limits of 500 gallons per day.
The unit was placed on residual heat removal at approximately 10:00 a.m. on the same date.
The unit is presently shutdown for eddy current testing of both Steam Generators.
The same unit was shutdown previously on September 20, February 2, and May 26, 1978, because of primary to secondary leakage in the "A" Steam Generator.
The licensee has made a press release.
Region III does not plan to issue a press release at this time.
The State of Wiscons-in has been notified.
Region III (Chicago) received notification of this matter by telephone from the licensee at 8:10 a.m. on August 6,1979.
