July 31, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-295 This oreliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or oublic interest sionificance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all tna is known oy IE staff on this date.

Facility: Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company Wm H. Zimmer (DN 50-358) Moscow, Ohio Subiect:

REVISED FUEL LOAD DATE - ZIMMER STATION Cincinnati Gas and Electric Compsny issued a Press Release today announcing a delay of approximately one year in commercial operation at the Zimmer Nuclear Power Station.

They stated that instead of a fuel load date in 1979, they now estimate a f.uel load date next summer.

The Press Release stated that they have also revised the estimated cost up from 664 million dollars (estimated in 1977) to 850 million dollars.

Cincinnati Gas and Electric attributes the delay to a slowdown in the licensing process and additional engineering and retrofit due to additional N?.C criteria.

Tnis PN is being issued because of anticipated public interest and media attention.

Tne State of Ohio is being notified.

RIII received notification of the News Release from a Cincinnati Reporter at 9:00 a.m. July 31, 1979.
