July 31,'1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-292 This oreliminarv notification constitutes EAPl.Y notice of an event of POSSIELE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

FACILITY:

Comanche Peak, Unit No. 1 and 2 Texas Utilities Generating Company Glen Rose, Texas (Docket No. 50-445; 50-446)

SUBJECT:

INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT The Texas Utilities Generating Company (TUGCO) notified Region IV by telephone on July 30, 1979, of an industrial accident which occurred at the Comanche Peak site at approxicately 12:30 p.m. on July 27, 1979.

The accident resulted in the death of a fif ty-six year old Brown and Root Company construction laborer.

The laberer was working on the 873 foot level and was descending to the next lower level to eat lunch. Apparently he attempted to use a tecporary scaffolding ladder in an area where scaffolding was being disassembled prior to being removed.

(The scaffold was flagged out as unsafe).

He fell approximately twenty feet when the scaffold gave way.

The injured was taken to the nearest hospital where he suffered cardiac arrest and was revived. He was being taken to a Fort Worth hospital when he suffered a reversal and died in the ambulance.

0SHA was notified by the licensee on July 30, 1979.

The licensee reported this catter by telephone to Region IV at approximately 8:30 a.c. on July 30, 1979.

The licensee plans to issue a news release.
