[M PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-406 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by It staff on this date.

SUBJECT:
UNIT SHUTDOWN FOR CONDENSER REPAIRS At 1630 hours0.0189 days <br />0.453 hours <br />0.0027 weeks <br />6.20215e-4 months <br /> on September 8, 1979, ANO Unit 2 was shutdown due to condenser tube leakage.
A unit cooldown was initiated and on September 10, 1979, the unit was in a cold shutdown condition.
Preliminary inspections of the main condenser indicate damage to tubes, the false floor, and spargers from the feedwater heater drain tanks.
Repairs are expected to take 6-10 days.
AP&L is making a press release.
The resident inspector was first notified of this event by the licensee at 8:15 a.m. hours on September 10, 1979.
