PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-413 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Rowe, Massachusetts Subect:
CRACK INDICATIONS IN FEEDWATER PIPING A planned reactor shutdown was made on September 8, 1979 to conduct radiography inspections per IE Bulletin 79-13 on feedwater to steam generator piping.
The preliminary findings from ths inspections completed as of September 11, 1979, show crack indications in all four feedwater to steam generator field welds.
Licensee Evaluations of the findings are in progress.
Additional piping insp'sc-tions per requirements of the bulletin are being made.
The time ev. tent of tne outage is undetermined at this time.
This'PN is issued for information only.
A Region I inspector is on site inspecting the licensees findings and resolutions.
Q ia interest is expected because of sensitivity to nuclear power plant issues.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been informed.
A press re' ease is not planned by the licensee or NRC at this time.
NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by tele-phone from an IE inspector onsite at 10:30 a.m., on September 11, 1979.
