PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE -- PHO-79-417 d
This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date FACILITY:
Tennessee Valley Authority Bellefonte, Unit 2 Docket No. 50-439 Scottsboro, Alabama
SUBJECT:
INDUSTRIAL FATALITY On September 11 at about 7:00 p.m., a TVA boiler maker fell while installing?
liner plate in Unit No. 2 reactor building.
He reportedly fell approximately 200 feet.
The Bellefonte plant is under construction.
Unit 2 is 50% complete.
The Scottsboro press came on site soon after, the accident.
A safety investiga-tion team from Knoxville will convene today to establish the facts.
If appropriate the licensee will issue a news release.
None is planned by NRC.
The States of Alabama and Tennessee have been informed.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from an IE inspector on site at 8:00 p.m. on September 11.
