Dear Mr. Ba'lalis:
Chairman Hendrie has asked me to respond to your mailgram of November 29, 1978 in which you requested NRC action to assure timely issuance of a license for the export of material intended for fabrication in France and eventual use in the Sterling Forest Reactor.
As you were infe rmed previously, your application was forwarded to the Department of Late in early August in order to obtain Executive Branch views on the p'oposed export.
We have contacted the State Department and other Executiv! Branch agencies on several occasions since then concerning their review of your request, including infoming the appropriate Executive Branch agencies of your recent mailgram.
While the NRC has not received Executive Branch coments on your application as of this date, I understand that the Executive Branch agencies involved in reviewing this application are attempting to complete their review as soon as possible.
We will con-tinue to keep in touch with these agencies and assist -in expediting your application to the extent possible.
I suggest you contact Mr. Louis Nosenzo of the Department of State regarding the status of this review.
His phone number is 632-4360.
Also related to your export request is your pending application for a license to re-import the fabricated fuel from France. This request was submitted by Mr. M. J. Cesare, International Distribution, Union Carbide, New York, on July 18, 1978, along with the application for export.
It is our intention to sute.it the export and import applications to the Commission simultaneously, when the Executive Branch comments on the export application are received.
