Dear Mr. Grier:

Pursuant to Connecticut Yankee Environmental Technical Specifications (ETS) Section 3.1.1.3, Connecticut Yankee hereby forwards the following report regarding fish impingement overruns.

During power operation with four main circulators running, two species of fish exceeded their monthly limit as delineated in Environmental Technical Specification Table 3.1-1.

An estimated 70 hogchoker (Trinectes maculatus) 3-6" were impinged exceeding the limit of 25 for the month.

An estimated 225 spottail shiner (flotropis hudsonius) >6" were impinged exceeding the monthly limit (Table 3.1.1) of 25.

There is no apparent cause which could be related t'o changes in plant operations.

Historically the spottail shiner and the hogchoker have been impinged almost exclusively during the fall and winter months.

Impingement report limits for the hogchoker were exceeded in September and October 1978 and in October 1977.

Report limits for the spottail shiner were exceeded during the winter months of 1976, 1977 and 1978.

It is believed that the seasonal water temperatures encountered at this time of the year contribute towards increased impingement of these species.

Very truly yours, I
