Dear Mr. Ballard:
Your letter to Dr. Hendrie has been referred to this office for reply.
While we are interested in processes by which radioactivity can be further removed from material released to the environment, your letter did not provide us with enough information to evaluate your proposal.
Unfortunately, we were unable to reach Mr. Nolan Sharp whom you recommended we contact to get further details of your process.
- However, the processes which are referenced in your letter appear to be at an early stage of development.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is, by law, prohibited from supporting research of a developmental nature. We would suggest that you contact the Department of Energy and furnish them with the specific details of your process. We would suggest you send this information to:
Dr. Goetz Oertel Office of Nuclear Waste Management U.S. Department of Energy Washington, D.C.
20585 We appreciate your interest in the Nuclear Regulatory Coninission's programs and encourage you to CJntinue your efforts to Control the release of radioactive materials to the environment.
Sincerely,
(

Dear Sir:
It has been suggested to me that I contact you in regards to the work that I have been doing with radioactive materials.
I started working with radioactive material, first using carnotite ore using a. 3% solution, I fine no gamma counts. af ter using my proce,ss. Tests were conducted at Fresno State College in Calif.by Doctor Micheal Zendler, and with my process all gamma rays were eleminated.
These tests were done thru the effort of Nolan Sharp 2317 E.Ashland,. Fresno, Calif.93726, Phone.209-227-4623, he ma,y be of some help to,you.
Some tests were run in Canada and in 2 minutes time 35%
was put into sludge, and that much was, unaccounted for.. total 70%
In the centrifuged material, lead was found.
Have worked with thorium, radium, uranyl acetate, carno-tite. autonite, with sucucess.
I have also worked with various acids with sucess, for in-stance, reduced a 19% cyanide solution to.03%, have also worked with toxic material.
Not too long ago I ran some material that came from a uranium waste pile, and founi no radioactivity af ter the process.
I am looking for funding to pursue the testing needed.
- 1. plan to do all of the testing in Nevada, and to use some of the University of Reno students. interested in radio-activity, in the physic and chemical testing and evalueing the results.
I have been told that I should pursue the part of putting the activity into sludge, as I do that in minutes, I then treat the sludge, reprocess it and lower the sludge content.
No one has been able to explain the loss of radioactivity from the rolutions and the sludges, that I hope to do just that.
I feel that your time will be well spent in checking this letter out further.
