2 2 WB DEC Mr. Thomas M. Anderson, Manager fluclear Safety Department Westinghouse Electric Corporation P. O. Box 355 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230
Dear Mr. Anderson:
SUBJECT:
SAFETY EVALVATI0ft 0F WCAP-8304 The fluclear Regulatory Commission Staff has completed its review of revisions to Westinghouse Electric Corporation topical reports WCAP-8304 (Proprietary) and WCAP-8110 Supplement 8 (flon-proprietary) entitled
" Stress and Structural Analysis and Testing of Ice Baskets". These revisions, reported in Supplement 1 to WCAP-8304 dated June 27, 1978 (flon-proprietary), account for increased loadings and more conservative assumptions in the ice basket stress analysis compared to those used in the original analysis. The additional information dated October 18, 1978 was also reviewed.
As a result of our review, we b"fe concluded that the ice baskets are qualified to carry design loads for ice condensers in the following plants:
D. C. Cook Units 1 and 2, Sequoyah Units 1 and 2, McGuire Units 1 and 2, Catawba Units 1 and 2, and Watts Bar Units 1 and 2.
Accordingly, topical report WCAP-8304, Supplement 1 dated June 27, 1978 and additional information dated October 18, 1978 are acceptable for reference in the above license aoplications. Topical report WCAP-8110 Supplement 8 is an acceptable non-proprietary version of WCAP-8304. When either of these reports is used as a reference, both the proprietary report and the non-proprietary version must be referenced.
In accordance with established procedure, we request that within three months of receipt of this letter you issue revised versions of WCAP-8304 and WCAP-8110 Supplement 8 to include this acceptance letter and the additional information transmitted June 27, 1978 and October 18, 1978.
We do not intend to repeat our review of these reports when they appear as references in a particular license application except to assure that the material presented in these reports is applicable to the specific plant involved.
