ARKANSAS POWER & LIGHT COMPANY POST OFFICE BOX 551 LITTLE ROCK. ARKANSAS 72203 (501)371-4000 October 27, 1978 1-108-10 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regilation ATTN: Mr. R. W. Reid, Chief Operating Reactor Branch r/4 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

Subject:

Arkansas Nuclear One-Unit 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51 Sequencing Electrical Loads on Startup Transformer (File: 1510)

Gentlemen:

As supplemental information to my letter of October 25, 1978, on the above subject, the following is provided. I Although we committed to implementing our proposed modification by October 31, 1978, we have also informed you that delay in your approval could impact that schedule. So you may better evaluate that potential impact, we wish to inform you that we require five calendar days, follow-ing your approval to implement the modification.

In previous telecons with the staff, we have discussed the testing requirements on the sequencing circuitry once the modifications are complete. It is our position that these modifications require only simple wiring changes and that testing of the relay circuitry has been previously performed in accordance with existing technical specifi-cations and need not be repeated. However, in order to assure that these wiring changes have been properly connected we will place the breaker for the pump in the " test" position and verify breaker closure through the time delay relay contact with offsite power as the power supply for that pump. This procedure will be repeated following the circuitry modification to each pump.

Very truly yours,

, eu 6vDaniel H. Williams
