This refers to your August 15, 1979 request for approval of routes involving the shipment of spent fuel from Pleasanton, California to Hanford/Ric. led, Washington.
We have determ ned that the review of licensee route approval requests is subject to the Comission's license fee schedule in 10 CFR 170.
For naterials licenses, fees for the review of route approval requests will be assessed under Catecory 13 of Section 170.31, as special projects.
In accordance with Footnote 8 of Section 170.31, the charge for the review would be determined by the Commission based on the professional nanpower required to conduct the review.
In detemining the fee to be charged, only actual staff time expended in the review of the route request is used to calculate the fee; the route (field) survey conducted by the NRC staff is excluded from fee computation.
The review of your request for route approval was completed flovember 21, 1979 (copy enclosed).
The cost of the review amounted to $950 (25 man-hours 0 $38/m-hr).
We have notified the NRC Office of the Controller to issue your Company an invoice for the fee.
We apologize for the delay in notifying you of the fee requirement for route approval reviews.
