20555 In the Matter of Boston Edison Company, g al.l (Pilgrim Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 2)

Docket No. 50-471 Gentlemen:

In accordance with my letter of October 23, 1979, I am providing the following in-formation concerning the status of the Staff's review of emergency planning for Pilgrim Unit 2.

If In a letter dated October 23,1973 --Emergency Preparedness Requirements - Pil-grim Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 2--the Staff informed the Applicants of the requirements necessary to complete the review of this proceeding on this subject.

The Staff does not know when the Applicants will submit the required information; however, the Staff believes much of it will be included in the revised emergency plans for Pilgrim Unit 1. The information for Pilgrim Unit 1 should be submitted on November 1,1979, and the Staff review will be completed in approximately three weeks. If the information submitted for Pilgrim Unit 1 is utilized by the Applicant fer Unit 2, then the completion of the evaluation for Unit 2 should be completed shortly after Unit l's review. Therefore, if this schedule is adhered to, there is a strong likelihood the Staff will be prepared to go to hearing in January,1980.

Of course, this will depend on the sufficiency of the Applicants'submittals and the actual time required to finish the review.

1/ This letter was distributed by the Staff to the Board and parties.
