M-4-1/2-76-44 RIVER COMPOSITE SAMPLE SYSTEM Description of Modification This modification involved the installation of a new rive water sampling system which will enable the station to obtain representetive background radiation level information from the Mississippi River. The new system collects river water samples upstream of the station, which are then pumped to a sample tank. This modification was installed because the previous sample system obtained samples from the inlet bay and did not obtain representative river samples during closed cycle operation of the cooling canal.

Summary of Safety Evaluation The operation of this system has no bearing on safe plant operation.

The intended function of the sampling system remains unchanged, however the new system will provide improved monitoring capability of the background radiation levels of the Mississippi River. Consequently plant releases can be more reliably monitored resulting in a greater margin of safety.
