EPA Uranium Fuel Cycle Standard In response to your letter of September 17, 1979 ve have reviewed the provisions of 40 CFR 190 and the existing TMI-1 & 2 Environmental Technical Specifications which comply with the requirements 6f 10 CFR 50, Appendix I.
We have determined that co=pliance with the release limits when averaged over a calendar quarter for radioactive materials in gaseous and liquid effluents as specified in the existing Technical Specifications vill ensure that doses to a real individual remain within 40 CFR 190 limits.
Calculations are made prior to planned release of radioactive materials in liquid and gaseous effluents to ensure compliance with these requirements.
Failure to meet the requirements of the existing Technical Specifications for radioactive materials in liquid or gaseous effluents will result in a report to NRC, also a dose assessment / analysis vill be performed to determine if radiation exposures to any.eal individual from uranium fuel cycle sources are less than the h0 CFR 190 Standard. Otherwise, a variance from the NRC will be requested to permit releases which exceed the 40 CFR 190 Standard. This commitment vill become effective on December 1, 1979 Sincerely, J. G.
