Inspection on August 30-31, 1979 Areas Inspected This special, announced inspection involved eight inspector-hours onsite by two inspectors in the areas of rev4 ewing confirmatory survey activities by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).

Results No apparent items of noncompliance or deviations were identified.

Status of Confirmatory Survey By Oak Ridge Associated Universities (0RAU)

ORAU personnel at the site were making direct radiation measurements and taking smears. The inspectors discussed the survey methods and results with ORAU and licensee personnel and observed surveys being made. The inspectors discussed the decontamination efforts with licensee personnel and observed the removal of contaminated floor material. Areas or items identified using a micro R/hr meter as potentially contaminated included one corner on the floor in the melt room, a crevice in the floor, isolated spots in two furnaces and on a drill press, a jar, a bolt, a film viewing box, two liquid effluent line traps, and a welder. The inspectors observed that cracks and holes in the melt room floor had been cleared out to recove contamination identified during the ORAU survey. ORAU representatives stated that the survey would continue and the results reported to the NRC.
