SUMMARY
OF FIRE PROTECTION MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 27-29, 1979 WITH SOUTH CAROLINA ELECTRIC AND GAS CCMPANY AT THE SUMMER FACILITY On August 27-29, 1979 we met with representatives of South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) and Gilbert Associates at the Sumer facility. The meeting and tour of the facility were part of our review of the design provi-sions for fire protection at the Summer facility. The persons attending the meeting are listed in the Enclosure.
At the conclusion of the tour, we presented our preliminary conclusions to SCE&G. Our principal conclusion was that SCEAG h<. not demonstrated that fires in areas containing redundant components,and control and instrumentation for the redundant components would not prevent safe shutdown of the facility. We stated that we would provide a detailed list of positions and requests for further analysis within two weeks of the meeting. We also requested that the SCE&G meet with us prior to submitting their responses.
