o INTERIM REPORT FOR POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY No. 79/14 AS DEFINED IN 10 CFR 50.55(e)

I.

Description of Deficiency On August 30, 1979, NAMCO Controls notified Bechtel Power Corporation of their determination that the EA180 series limit switches shipped against Bechtel Purchase Order 9645-F36019 (1) EA740-50001 shipped 7/16/79 may have a top gasket which will emit resin vapor, at temperatures above 175 F, which could condense on the normally open contacts possibly causing a switch malfunction.

II.

Safety Implication It has been determined that the noted switch was installed on valve Q1E12F039A which is a passive item and thus not reportable within the meaning of 10 CFR 50.55(e).

Bechtel has additionally reviewed the limit switch purchase orders and contacted the valve suppliers to determine if additional like switches have been received on Grand Gulf Nuclear Station.

III. Corrective Action The results of the above actions are expected to be available for analysis, the analysis completed, and the determination of reportability within the meaning of 10 CFR 50.55(e) be made by December 11, 1979.

A final report will be submitted to you by December 21, 1979.
