Docket No. 50-344 (Control Building)
Gentlemen:
On September 6, 1979, the NRC Staff filed a motion to costpone the scheduled hearing in Phase II of the referenced proceeding because the Staff was unable to issue its Safety Evaluation Report (SER) on the proposed Control Building modifications.
In that motion, the Staff inuicated that it would provide to the Licensing Board and parties weekly reporh on the status of resolution of the open items and completion of the SER.
This constitutes such report for the week ending October 5, 1979.
On September 28, 1979, an additional 7 questions were telecopied to the Licensee and on October 2, 1979, a set of comprehensive questions was telecopied. While it is not possible at this time to state that there will be no further questions since this is dependent upon the nature and quality of the Licensee's responses and the results of the meeting discussed below, the questions submitted on Sep-tember 14,19 and 28 and October 2 cover all the open items raised by, or remaining after, the Licensee's September 5, 1979 responses to Staff questions.
Or, October 4,1979, there was a conference call between Staff technical reviewers and PGE/Bechtel technical personnel. The purpose of the call was for NRC Staff reviewers to discuss the meaning and intent of certain Staff questions.
A meet-ing has been scheduled for October 18 and 19 between the Staff and Licensee to discuss any additional clarifications of the questions submitted by the Staff and for discussions of the nature and quality of the information the Staff seeks, the manner in which the Licensee intends to respond, and the information it will pro-vide in its responses. A notice with regard to this meeting will be distributed to the intervenors and the State of Oregon shortly.
Sincerely,
/r
