Dear Mr. Grier:
Subj ect:
Supplementary Response to I&E Bulletin 79-14 As a result of telephone conversations with your staff, we are revising our activities at Maine Yankea in order to meet the require-ments and intent of Bullettn 79-14 as revised and amended.
We are currently completing a field check of all Seismic Category I piping in containment. We estimate this task will be completed in the first week of October, 1979. At that time the field checking efforts will shift to accessible piping which is scheduled for completion by December 31, 1979.
Re-analysis of Seismic Category I piping will begin thereafter. Our total effort is esti=ated to be 30 percent complete with no =ajor discrepancies found to date.
The field checking currently being conducted uses appropriate measuring techniques, and addresses the following features:
1.
Pipe size and geometry 2.
Hanger location 3.
Hanger function 4.
Valve and valve to pipe geometry 1249 062 79110201)

Mr. Boyce H. Grier, Director Page Two If and when discrepancies are found, competant engineering personnel will decide whether the problem is minor, i.e. has little or no effect on pipe or support stresses, and can be noted for inclusion in the final re-analysis; or is msjor 3 lankee engineering must be notified so they may take appropriate actiot.
In the case of a major discrepancy an analytic evaluation would be completed w1.Otin 30 days.
In either esse if system operability is determined to be cit' acted, Maine Yankee will comply with the applicable technical specification requirements.
We are certain our program described above meets the intent and concerns of your staff.
If, however, you require additional information, please contact us at your convenience.
