Metropolitan Edison Company (Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit No. 1)

Docket No. 50-289 - Restart

Dear Mr. Hossler:

The board appreciates your constructive suggestions concerning the handling of public limited appearance statements.

We have received several suggestions, including your earlier telephoned co=ments, that advertisements be placed in local newspapers explaining where and how limited appearance statements may be made.

Arrangements have been made for these ads and they should be appearing soon.

Also, the Commission's Office of Public Aff airs has issued a news release with this information.

There have been very =any requests for the opportunity to make limited appearance statements.

Probably, as you, predict, many others will apnear who have not made a request id advance.

The board does not have the facilities which would enable us to receive.these statements at fixed reserved times.

Mrs. Moran, the clerk to the board, has forwarded your suggestions that persons sign in and be assigned a number.

This, I feel, would help to assure f air treatment and permit individuals to estimate when their turn will come up.

I will discuss this suggestion with the other board members.

We plan, as you suggest, to allot as much time as is required to give each individual an opportunity to be heard.

We will explore ways to make these appearances as convenient as possible, which is one reason why we have scheduled morning, afternoon, evening and Saturday sessions and two meeting places.

Sin [erely, Y#
