In the quiry addressed to b'r. Denton, '<r. Eerry raised questions on Zion Station relating to the Three Mile Island (Tf'I) accicent, an evacuat;on plan for Zion and conflicting reports from the NRC.
I first apologized for I.'RC's not answering the letter sooner.
I noted thct the *?.C has been very busy post-TMI taking acticn with all licensed reactors to gain more assurance that the TMI type incident would not occur.
I explained that Zion Stations Emergency Plan, 2 proved by NRC, required alerting State and local authorities if certain emergencies should occur. Also, I noted that State or local authorities are responr.ble far evacuatior outside the plant site, if necessary, depending on 5 tate and local laws or regulation. However, Mr. Berry was told of the IP.C emergency planning review teams currently scheduled for a neeting in the local areas of each licensed reactor. I offered to send Mr. Barry a copy of the meeting notice for Zion Station when it is issued later this nonth. As to the conflicting reports following

He agreed that could be possible.
I also noted that NRC has issued a " Lessons Learned" report which lists the. important factors learned and that all licensed reactors are using this report now.
