Consumers Pouer Conpany Midlaac Plant Units 1 & 2 Bechtel Job 7220 Status of Corrective Act!.on and Investigation The status of actions in progress for resolution of the subj ect MCAR is as follcus.
1)
Bc'chtel has received from Crinnell a graph verifying that scmples taken frem Heat N-32762 speol 1-EL3-2S$38-13-2 CO-4-11) uere not in the heat-affected :ena of the bend. Therefora.it-is concluded that icw Charpy values were the result of material inconsistency for this specific spool and a generic concern for hot band sections of pipe Paving poor Charpy characteristics is el1=inated.
2)
As stated previcusly in Interi= paport 1, 3echtel hcs determined that the mini =um service tempcracure for the appliccble spools is 707.
n erefore, Grinnell has submitted and Ecchtel has cpproved a supplier deviatica disp:sition request (SODR) for the following spools, frca Heat U-32752 which raises the minf-am Charpy test temperature from 3CF to 70F.

Bechtel Associates ProfessionalCorporation MCAR 29 Interim Repart 3 j HS Page 2 The one hot bend spool associated with this heat, spool 1-EI.3-2S-638-13-2, which had previously been identified in Interic Report 2 will be replaced. This particular spool is being replaced due to its unifornally lov Charpy test results even though all spools associated with Heat :;-32762 would be considered qualified by code as result of Crinnell's acceptable tests at a revised service tenperature of 707.
3)
Based on Grinnell's conclusien stated previously in Interim Report 2 Crinnell is in the process of retesting heat L-20479 at 70F and will submit en SDDR upon successful completion of the testing.
Test results are e.g ceted frea Crinnell b/ Sopec=ber 12, 1979, and will be reported in the next MCAR report.
Due to the pending disposition of Heat L-20479 the reportable condition of pipe remains uncertain at this ti=e.
Forccast Data f or Investication and Corrective Action The final report is scheduled for Octcba S,1979, s
